Life's True Author
We live in a world that loves the idea of being in control. Movies and stories constantly tell us, “You can be anything,” or “You can write your own destiny.” In The Matrix, for example, Neo breaks free from a false world and discovers the power to shape reality with his own mind. Stories like that are exciting because they suggest that real freedom comes when we become the authors. But this belief—that we are the masters of our own destiny—is not truth. It’s just a myth wrapped in dreamlike storytelling.
Yet even those stories, in their deepest longing, point toward something real—something we call True Fantasy. True Fantasy is not about escaping reality but waking up to the real story God is writing in our lives. It’s the miraculous work of a Creator who makes Himself visible through His Word, His grace, and His careful orchestration of every event we experience.
In truth, we have very little control over our own beginnings. We didn’t choose our parents, when we were born, our culture, our bodies, or our natural talents. We don’t decide the circumstances we face, the hardships we encounter, or even the time we’re given on this earth. If our own story depended only on our strength, it would be fragile and uncertain. But God, in His sovereignty, writes with a steady hand. Psalm 139:16 says, “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
God is not just watching from a distance—He is the Author of every life. Jeremiah 10:23 says, “I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.” And Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Even when our choices seem random or our path seems lost, He weaves everything into His good design (Romans 8:28).
This doesn’t mean our choices are meaningless. It means they find their meaning inside God’s larger story of redemption. Ephesians 2:10 tells us, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand.” The fantasy we crave—to be part of something bigger, more miraculous, more beautiful—isn’t fiction at all. It’s God’s reality unfolding in us.
At the center of His reality stands the greatest story ever told—the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus, the Son of God, entered the story He Himself wrote. Born of a virgin, He lived a perfect, sinless life that we could never live. He even said, “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent me” (John 6:38). Then He died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins and rose again on the third day, defeating death forever.
This was not an accident in history—it was the plan written before time began (Acts 2:23). Through His birth, death, and resurrection, Jesus opened the way for us to be forgiven, restored, and brought into God’s eternal story. Every event in creation, every heartbeat, and every moment of history leads to Him—and through Him—to the moment your own life began—and beyond.
True Fantasy is what happens when the Author of creation turns the pages of our lives to reveal His glory through our story. He writes with grace, patience, and purpose, shaping every chapter to lead us closer to Him. When we stop trying to write our own story and give the pen back to God, life doesn’t shrink—it expands. We find meaning, hope, and joy beyond anything we could imagine.
So the question isn’t whether you’re the author. It’s whether you’ll trust the One who already holds the story in His hands. When you do, you’ll see that His story is far greater—and far more real—than any fantasy this world could ever tell.

Chapter 10: An Intimate Relationship With Dirt
